Facial Cosmetic Treatments — Consultation
Some cosmetic facial treatments can be provided by appropriately trained dental practitioners. Whether a treatment is suitable depends on an individual assessment, and any decision is made together with you at a consultation.
Why a dentist?
Dental practitioners spend their careers working with the anatomy, muscles and nerves of the face and jaw, and administering injections with precision. That training transfers directly to facial treatments, and dentists also see the face as a whole — the relationship between your smile, lips and surrounding features.
Some treatments in this area also have clinical uses in dentistry, such as helping to manage severe teeth grinding and certain jaw muscle pain, which we assess as part of your overall dental care.
What happens at a consultation
Assessment first
A consultation is required before any treatment. We discuss your concerns, take a medical history and assess suitability — some people are not candidates, and we’ll say so.
Informed decision
We explain what a treatment involves, its expected effects and duration, and its risks and side effects, so you can decide with full information. There is no obligation to proceed.
Cooling-off period
Consistent with national guidelines, you’ll have time to consider your decision after the consultation before any treatment is scheduled.
Ongoing care
We review outcomes at a follow-up appointment and you have a direct line to the practice if anything concerns you afterwards.
